OTTAWA, ONTARIO, CANADA: From an impressive field of 818 deserving nominees, representing every province and territory in Canada, the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association (CDHA) has revealed the winner of its inaugural dental hygiene superhero competition.
This remarkable field of nominees was narrowed to 21 finalists and evaluated by a panel of judges who selected Donna Lee of Vancouver, British Columbia, as Canada’s Dental Hygiene Superhero. Two honourable mentions were also selected: Mary Ito of Coburg, Ontario, and Lisa Chovin of Sturgeon County, Alberta.
Championed by oral health defender CDHA and sponsored by Sensodyne®, this competition recognized dental hygiene health care superheroes, the important work they accomplish, and the roles they play as primary health care providers in communities across Canada.
"It is wonderful to see dental hygienists making a real difference in the lives of everyday Canadians.” says Sophia Baltzis, CDHA president. “Reading their stories and seeing what a positive impact dental hygienists have on the oral health of their clients is incredible!” Dental hygienists were nominated primarily by clients, but also by colleagues and employers, and were evaluated on their client focus, social responsibility, leadership, integrity, respect, and transparency.
Congratulations to all nominees. Visit www.dentalhygienecanada.ca/healthcaresuperhero to read more about these inspiring heroes and their stirring stories.
Serving the profession since 1963, CDHA is the collective national voice of more than 28,495 registered dental hygienists working in Canada, directly representing 19,000 individual members including dental hygienists and students. Dental hygiene is the sixth largest registered health profession in Canada with professionals working in a variety of settings, including independent dental hygiene practice, with people of all ages, addressing issues related to oral health.
