MONTRÉAL, Quebec, CANADA: The 2014 Journées dentaires internationales du Québec featured three days of pre-convention activities followed by two days of convention events, including 77 sessions representing 488 hours of continuing education.

In a letter posted on the JDIQ website following the meeting, Denis Robert, DMD, the chairman of the JDIQ planning committee, said: “I would like to thank everyone who contributed in any way to this success. First of all, you, the dentists and dental clinic staff, whose constant support encourages us to always excel. Then all the representatives of the dental industry, who attend every year to keep us abreast of the latest innovations in the field. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to the speakers, who make such a great effort to present advances in dental science.”

This year’s exhibit hall again featured complimentary coffee and pastries both mornings, but those weren’t the only deals awaiting JDIQ attendees. Enticing show specials were available up and down every aisle of the exhibit hall in the Palais des congrès de Montréal. Among the offerings:

  • In the Shofu Dental Corp. booth, visitors found show-special pricing on the only digital camera designed specifically for dentistry. Instead of “scenic” and “sports” mode, the preset shooting modes on the EyeSpecial C-II come with labels such as “whitening” (for before-and-after teeth-whitening photos) and “mirror” if you’re capturing an intraoral image as reflected in a dental mirror (which you can be holding, because you need only one hand to operate the camera).
  • In the NSK booth, you could hold the recently launched Ti-Max Z900L air-powered handpiece, and if you liked the way it felt you were invited to test one out with a full week of use at your practice. Or, if you were ready to buy, there’s was a show special: Buy three handpieces from the Ti-Max Z air-driven series and get the fourth one free.
  • Making its JDIQ debut was Isolite Systems, which just obtained licensing to sell its dental isolation system in Canada. The device creates an isolated, humidity- and moisture-free working field — while improving patient comfort.
  • National Dental had a variety of products on display, including the new LightWalker Dual Wavelength Laser. Also in the booth was the new Carl Zeiss Cinemizer 3D Video Glasses, designed to improve your patients’ comfort.

The Ordre des dentistes du Québec, through the JDIQ, is already planning next year’s meeting, scheduled for May 22 through 26. And again the plan is to continue to uphold the meeting’s description as “North America’s largest bilingual dental convention.”
