OTTAWA, Ontario, CANADA: The Canadian Dental Hygienists Association, for the third year in a row, will recognize dental hygiene health care superheroes in communities across Canada. The CDHA’s Dental Hygiene Superhero competition, sponsored by Sensodyne, celebrates dental hygienists who educate and empower their clients to embrace the “oral health for total health” motto.
“We want to recognize oral health care providers who are ambassadors of the profession and model exceptional client care,” said Leanne Huvenaars, CDHA president. More than 1,600 deserving dental hygienists have been nominated by employers, clients or colleagues over the past two years. “We want to hear more stories about the dental hygienists who are changing lives every day with their commitment to improving oral and overall health,” Huvenaars added. Nominees will be evaluated on their client focus, empowerment through education, accountability, leadership, integrity, respect and compassion.
The competition runs from Feb. 1 to May 11, and the CDHA hopes to exceed last year’s 856 nominations. Dental hygienist superheroes can be nominate at www.dentalhygienecanada.ca/healthcaresuperhero. Employers, clients or colleagues may nominate their dental hygiene superhero. Self-nominations are not permitted. Nominees must be CDHA members (the CDHA will verify) or may join to be considered.
CDHA is the collective national voice of more than 29,549 dental hygienists in Canada, directly representing 20,000 individual members, including students. Since 1963, CDHA has worked to advance the profession and promote the importance of oral health. Dental hygiene is the sixth largest registered health profession in Canada with professionals working in a variety of settings, including independent dental hygiene practice, with people of all ages, addressing issues related to oral health.
