VANCOUVER, British Columbia, CANADA: Many of the educational opportunities available in the Exhibit Hall at the2017 Pacific Dental Conference were easy to come by — attendees just had to stop at a booth and start asking questions. But there were some formal opportunities as well, with many exhibitors scheduling mini courses throughout the day. The annual meeting was held March 9 to 11 at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

Meeting organizers call it one of the largest dental conferences in North America, offering a broad selection of continuing education programs. With more than 200 open sessions and hands-on courses and close to 300 exhibiting companies occupying 625 booths — the meeting is designed to serve dentists and their entire dental team.

The Live Dentistry Stage at one end of the Exhibit Hall and the Product Stage at the other offer meeting attendees no-pressure, sit-down opportunities to simply watch and learn. Steady crowds filled the seats throughout the day.

On the Product Stage, ABELDent presented “A New Model for Practice Success,” Tier Three Brokerage presented “Practice Sale Readiness Check-Up,” Navigate Surgical Technologies presented “Dynamic Surgical Guidance,” Pinnacle Wealth Brokers presented “The Millionaire Dentist: Turing Assets Into Income” and American Eagle Instruments presented “XP Technology Sharpen-Free Scalers: Myth or Miracle.”

Many companies also offered specials on the Exhibit Hall floor.

American Eagle Instruments is offering PDC attendees two hand instruments free when they buy 12. Or you can get five free when you buy 25. And any purchase gets you a cute, plush eaglet toy. The best part of the deal: The company’s XP Technology instruments never need sharpening.

In the always-busy Designs for Vision booth, you can save $200 when you buy loupes and headlight as a package. If you want to barely notice you’re wearing anything, an impressive “combo” to consider would be the Micro 3.5 Scopes and LED WireLess Mini — about as light as you can get.

In the DiaDent booth, among the many offers is a “buy two, get one free” deal on the Dia-PT Nickel Titanium rotary files for shaping and finishing. The files should work fine with pretty much any system and technique you’re already using. In another deal, if you buy theDiaDent EvoFill Duo complete kit, you’ll also get: two boxes of GP cartridges (20/box) a heating condenser and two Dia-Kondensors. That adds up to $540 CAD. Plus, if you practice in the area, remember that these folks are local.

Zendo Direct is here with its usual great deals. The company is offering “buy one get one free” deals on bite registration material, bonding agents, calcium hydroxide, composites, core build up, FG diamond burs, impression materials and temporary crown and bridge. The “free” part of the equation needs to be identical to the purchased product, and you’re limited to one deal per product category.

Septodont has all sorts of show-only offers, and is ready to demonstrate them before you buy. Visit the booth to learn more about BIOROOT root canal sealer, OraVerse phentolamine mesylate (reverses soft-tissue anesthesia) and Biodentine, which is a bioactive and biocompatible dentin substitute that has multiple uses.

Shofu has show specials going with many of its products; and all of the favorites are here in Vancouver, including the highly regarded Giomer materials that: recharge fluoride, neutralizes acid on contact, demonstrate an anti-plaque effect and decrease acid production of cariogenic bacteria. On the list: Beautifil Flow Plus injectable hybrid restorative; BeautiSealant, fluoride releasing pit-and-fissure sealant system; Beautifil II, a nano-hybrid composite with Fluoride release and recharge; and BeautiBond, a single adhesive comprising two powerful monomers.

Among the broad selection of high-tech imaging equipment on display is the Ultra-Low Dose scanning technology in the Planmeca booth. An independent study of the protocol showed an average 77 percent reduction in radiation dose without any reduction in image quality.
